Panama City Restaurant and Food
Panama City restaurant, Cafe Pomodoro Spaghetteria/Wine Bar It wraps around the Las Vegas Hotel on the corner of Avenue Eusebio A Morales and Calle 55 streets and is in the area known as El Cangrejo, Panama City restaurant business district. The Wine Bar entrance faces Eusebio A Morales and the Cafe? Pomodoro Spaghetteria faces Calle 55. On the Wine Bar side music and wine flow from 6 pm to wee hours; earlier they serve a lunch menu from the Pamadoro side. The Wine Bar offers a generous and varied wine menu. Leaving the Wine Bar side you travel through an inter courtyard that connects the Pomadoro and the Wine Bar, there you can dine under a canopy of trees as Panama's weather is perfect for on a starry night. As you enter the Pomodoro side you enter a cozy café atmosphere. There's an espresso machine behind the bar and sidewalk tables just out the door. Right next door out the sidewalk is Pomodoro's walk up window for carry out orders. Our Saturday night meal for two consisted of: Freshly toasted bread with Balsamic dipping sauce, veal sausage, Pomodoro salad, Chicken and Egg soup, and Corvina with Spaghetti. Two Atlas beers (excellent, local favorite) to wash it down, and we were out the door tip included $22.00. Menus were in Spanish and English. It's obvious by the details more than one trip was made here and we are partial to this dinning experience. From the carry out window you can see into the kitchen of the Pomodoro. The counter waitress doubles as the salad chef for the sit down dinning area. From there you can see orders prepped for the seated section. I watched as huge rustic loaves of bread were quartered and sliced, then toasted and served as a prelude to all seated customers. Salads are not prepared ahead and reserved for service at the time they are ordered, but instead each order is made from uncut vegetables especially for you. A second location has recently opened on the causeway with more of a night life atmosphere. It's obvious by the details more than one trip was made here and we are partial to this dinning experience. We find the atmosphere and the service to be delightful and the food has never failed to be generous and delicious. Manolo There are several locations around town and is probably as close to a 'chain' Panama City restaurant as you are going to find in Panama. It offers typical Panama City restaurant food and we would compare it to a Panama City restaurant 'Friday's'. The atmosphere is more quiet and sedate than Friday's with a romantic feel for evening dinning. There's usually a bar area, and inside and patio dinning. Manolo is open 24 hours a day, with complete menus. The atmosphere is friendly and the service is fast. The food is always fresh, generous portions, and delicious. For dinner I ordered a mixed salad (ensalada mixta) a large green vegetable salad and a bowl of Panamanian chicken soup. My husband ordered the antipasto and a fried chicken dinner that came with a salad and fried plantains. The chicken was several pieces of boneless chicken breast grill fried. A beer and two cups of café con leche. Our bill was $23.00 with tip. Manolo is one of my favorite places to get a cup of café con leche (Panamanian coffee). Make a note that for all restaurants in Panama city we've been to so far additional cups of coffee are additional charges to 'la cuenta' (the bill). Menus were in Spanish and English. We've been here several times and will keep going back. For good quality food and great prices, it's hard to beat. The Panama City restaurant, Costa Azul Restaurante Is located at Calle Rdo Arias, Campo Alegre and is open 24 hours a day with complete menus, the atmosphere is a casual café setting. This Panama City restaurant is simple with plenty of inside seating and a small outdoor patio area. It offers typical Panamanian dishes and a daily special. We were there for the evening meal. I ordered a mixed salad (ensalada mixta) a large green vegetable salad. My husband ordered the Corvina Cerviche appetizer and a typical Panama City restaurant Steak dinner. The food was fresh, generous portions, and delicious. We both had café con leche (coffee w/ milk) and we were out the door with tip for $16.00. Menus were in Spanish. We will be returning here. Panama City resaurant, Shalon Kosher Shalon Kosher is located on Via Italia In Paitilla. Having lived in Israel for three years my husband was always talking about Schwarma. He stumbled across this restaurant and we went in hunt of Schwarma. They had it and he liked it. The Israeli Schwarma was a ground mixture of lamb and chicken formed and placed on a rotisserie, much like the gyros meat in Greek restaurants. The Schwarma at Shalon Kosher was shredded chicken. We ordered Schwarma and Babagnosh. A huge plate of meat, a basket of about six fresh warm pitas, hummus, Mediterranean salad, and the babagnosh was served at our table. It was more than enough for two, but so delicious we didn't leave any behind. This Panama City restaurant is glatt kosher, so you won't be served any dairy here. Getting a café con leche is not possible. My husband asked for one and at the end of the meal they served him instant coffee with non-dairy creamer. My husband says it's not Israeli style and not American style, but tasty. The bill was $12 and change. Our tummies were full and we're going back soon. Menus were in Spanish Panama City restaurant, Jimmy Parrillada y Restaurante There are a couple of locations around the city. Jimmy's offers inside and patio dinning. We ate outside in the delicious evening air. Casual atmosphere, great service, delicious food. There were three of us that dinned for around $30. We had a 6-7" pizza for an appetizer. I ordered vegetable kabobs and a salad. My husband ordered a steak dinner, and our guest had a Corvina (white sea bass) dinner. Jimmy's is a great restaurant and we have plans to return soon. Menus were in Spanish and English. Lenos y Carbon Is located in the food court of the Albrook Mall. But don't let that fool you, the malls in Panama can be some of the best places to eat for the best prices. You really need to check out this food court for the variety of foods and the ease of pleasing a crowd and they serve you at your table. My husband ordered the Carbon Pescado meal. A whole fish cooked on the grill, (papas fritas) french fries, small (chica) salad for $4.25. He talks about this meal to his friends and looks forward to returning. The food is listed in Spanish. New York Bagel New York Bagel store has opened in Panama City. Finally! Now paradise is complete! It is located on Arturo Motta, off of Via Argentina, not many doors from the corner Subway, and in front of the statue or Einsteins head (directly across from Einsteins right ear). The owner, John, came to Panama via the Peace Corps. He told me the one thing he always missed from the US was the bagels. Since no one else was making them, he decided he would fill the gap. John does a first class job making bagels, the closest thing Ive found in Panama to an authentic bagel. I have to say they are almost prefect. Panama City restaurant, New York Bagel brews a nice variety of American Style coffees, served in big cups with a bottomless promise, for a dollar. Now thats a value. He makes a generous variety of bagels, flavored cream cheese, and sandwiches. My husband, a Bronx boy, suggested a full fledged New York style deli with Pastrami, Corned Beef, and the works to which John said give him a chance, he was just getting started. The decor is styled after the many gourmet coffee shops that are popping up all across the US. That means there is a counter, a few tables, and a couple of conversation pits. We were there at the closing of his first business day and carried away a bakers dozen of assorted bagels with lox cream cheese for $9.99 and an additional container of cream cheese (brown sugar and walnut) was $2.49. Either container of cream cheese would have been enough to drown all thirteen bagels by itself. We will be going back frequently, you should put this one on your list to visit too.
